A Comprehensive Health Journey

Discover how Neuro Rehab Nutrition supported Client A, a man living in residential care with complex neurological disability and epilepsy, to safely reduce weight, improve gut health, and stabilise energy levels—all through a tailored, person-centred dietetic plan. This case reveals how responsive, collaborative nutrition care can drive meaningful change, even in highly complex settings. Read on to learn how a 9% weight loss, improved bowel function, and renewed engagement were achieved through compassionate, evidence-based intervention.

At Neuro Rehab Nutrition, we supported Client A—a man in his late 30s living in residential care with complex neurological disability and severe epilepsy—through a tailored nutritional recovery plan. Following a childhood brain injury, Client A faced multiple health challenges, including weight gain, gastrointestinal issues, sensory impairment, and high care dependency. When we began working together in August 2024, he weighed 94 kg (BMI 31.5, Class I Obesity), and concerns were growing over his mobility, bowel health, and care complexity.

Through a person-centred, multidisciplinary approach—including his family, care staff, GP, SLT, and Music Therapist—we introduced targeted strategies to reduce high-calorie snacks, improve gut health, and enhance the nutritional quality of his meals. Within six months, he achieved a 9% weight loss, transitioning from obesity into the overweight range, with positive changes in energy, digestion, and care outcomes.

When clinical concerns emerged in early 2025, we quickly adapted the plan—moving into weight maintenance, increasing calories modestly through fibre- and protein-rich foods, and collaborating on medication adjustments. As of March 2025, Client A’s weight remains stable, bowel function is well managed, and dietary quality is high, with consistent staff engagement.

This case reflects how Neuro Rehab Nutrition’s specialist input enables meaningful change—balancing clinical goals with compassion, creativity, and deep respect for the individual. Our work underscores the importance of flexible, ongoing dietetic involvement in care settings where nutrition must be both therapeutic and humanising.
